We invest our revenue and expertise in creating change and tackling some of the biggest impact challenges. Take a look.

The transformative power of art for sustainability in Roma community

ROUM is the first Roma rescue center for abandoned objects in the world.

It is a space where Roma artists, craftsmen and women and non-Roma artists, together, use waste in order to produce bespoke, high-end pieces of art for interior design.

ROUM enterprise is based on learning from Roma communities which have a long tradition of reusing, rethinking and upcycling discarded objects, preserving traditional crafts and trades, showing great entrepreneurship skills and as a community reducing the amount of waste in our societies. We use the prejudice against Roma, pushed into working with waste, as social capital for our own business. The business that brings discarded people and objects from the margins to the very center of the society.

ROUM was started by Impact House in 2017 and has since been a sucesfull spin off now owned and operated by the Roma community.

Our recipe is: a good spoonful of Roma crafts, mixed in an abandoned pot with a generous seasoning of old crafts. Weld until beautiful!

WHY WE ARE DIFFERENT?

We don’t ask why youth are not active in politics, we ask why do we create politics that’s unrelatable for youth? Dive into our Open Climate policy lab!

Open Climate policy lab is a three day custom designed support for youth wanting to impact decision-makers and policies about climate in Croatia. From research, fact-checking, storytelling, policy solutions, positioning, and behavioural bias analysis, to custom designed think-thanks for youth at their disposal, lobbying and advocacy training as well as 15 minute sit-down with targeted officials, representatives of political parties, civil society, journalists and corporates, we made sure to give a leg-up to the next generation. We even forbade any presentations and lectures and provided key listeners instead of key speakers to ensure maximum positive impact.

CLIME – climate stories from the past

What do a 15-year-old Luka and a 72-year-old Lucija have in common? – Both have an impact on nature and the environment in Pula.

We live in a period where we are becoming aware of climate change and the transfer of habits that define climate change from generation to generation. Although this type of climate and ecological socialization is crucial, there is less and less space for intergenerational dialogue on climate and nature.

Thus, we are very excited to present π‚π‹πˆπŒπ„ – 𝐜π₯𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐒𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐒𝐦𝐞𝐬.

πŸ’‘”Clime” is a social innovation that combines anthropological research on resource use, attitudes towards the sea, waste and climate, and the experience of climate change over more than 90 years of the life of the citizens of Pula.

The main goal of the project β€œClime” was to connect generations in a common goal of tackling climate change by using AR technology to share an experience that stretches over the lifetime of elderly citizens and benefit from their strategies of living in rapid climate change.

The social impact of this project reaches a heterogeneous target group:

  • makes the elderly visible and contributes to transgenerational and intergenerational knowledge transfer,
  • strengthens intergenerational interaction and reduces the generation gap,
  • raises awareness of climate change,
  • puts climate change and sustainable life within the tourist offer of the city and beyond,
  • redesigns the public space of the city of Pula,
  • educational program for locals and tourists,
  • provides a business model game app and changes in environmental behaviour in other cities.

THE GOOD INFLUENCE MOVEMENT

Today’s influencers face challenges to ensure social responsibility and ethics of their influence and abiding by the increasingly complex truth and fact policies of online communication.

The goal of the “The Good Influence” movement is to generate the first generation of socially responsible influencers. Influencers that are educated and informed about their social responsibility and have signed the Good Influence Ethics Code ensuring social responsibility in their work that matches the social power they already have.

The Good Influence movement is a project by Marina Orsag and Impact House.

The Good Influence Movement is the world’s first movement that includes education in the field of psychology, sociology, ethics and public communication, the process of drafting the first Ethics Charter with a group of experts.

Results of the GIM event:

  • Educating and raising awareness of the influencers of their social responsibility and the impact that they have on social media and the public
  • Creating the first general Code of Ethics for the “profession” of influencer
  • An official event of the first signing of the Good Influence Ethics Charter
  • Designed tested and implemented mandatory training for gaining the Good Influence certificate/digital badge
  • Convening the ethical board of the Good Influence Movement in charge of monitoring and approving GI certificates (including Impact House experts, Studio Smijeha experts, and other partners on the influencer demand side such as PR companies etc)Β
  • Promoting The Good Influence Movement with regional and European influencers
  • Reporting and recommendations for developing The Good influence Movement
  • On-boarding second (and third etc) generations of The Good Influencers
  • Promotion and partnerships with influencers, experts, organisations that employ influencers, civil society working on tolerance issues that require Good influence support and the general public.

Our Collaborative Impact

Our partner projects, projects we are happy to have been part of.

#SKILLSPOWER

The Skills Power project was designed in order to raise the level of upskilling and adult learning in Croatia as well as to develop new tools, partnerships and resources thus jumpstarting a new era in upskilling in Croatia.

Powered by Manpower Consulting in partnership with the Ministry of Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy and Roma Youth Organisation of Croatia.

We started a revolution by creating the first upskilling platform in Croatia that includes a private company in the field of skills and employment (Manpower) key public institutions in the field (Ministry of Labour and Employment Service) and a civil society organisation advocating for a specific group in our society that is underrepresented in employment (Roma Youth Organisation).
The goal is to address the issue of low upskilling in the Republic of Croatia by coming together and pooling our expertise and resources. In order to ensure the newest developments and technology in supporting upskilling, we have welcomed Gamechuck (a gaming company) to our platform as we keep developing the human and expert power behind skills in Croatia.

Our social impact is based on the goals of the project as well as researched social impact goals stemming from upskilling such as:

  • increased employability and higher earnings for individuals
  • higher productivity and economic growth for the economy as whole impacting productivity and growth in tax revenues and reduced costs to the public purse;
  • improved health, social and civic engagement, and lower involvement in criminal activities due to employment;
  • promoting trust, civic engagement, active citizenship and social inclusion;
  • a more skilled and competent population, which is able to generate and adopt new ideas that stimulate innovation and technological progress.

#IMPACTPOLITICS

Why do we have to BE different in order to have a different future? We are very proud to have supported the first woman running for EU parliament on a bike and her green campaign with impact politics support and consultations.

#IMPACTCOMMUNITYΒ

One of the most isolated and hopeless communities in any country is the community in prisons. As we know, the quality of prisons is one of the factors directly influencing the probability of post-release criminal activity ie. recidivism, which is only secondary, to the argument that prisoners are human beings and have not just rights but needs as well. We are therefore very thankful to the brave women of Skribonauti – a Croatian NGO bringing “autohors to prisons” project, organising prison radio programs, animation workshops, cinemas, book clubs and bibliotherapy. We have collaborated with Skribonauti in measuring their impact, researching and analysing the results of their projects and writing recommendations and suggestions through providing the external evaluation services.

#IMPACTTOURISM

Living in a very touristic country means not only enjoying the views and pushing through the highway traffic jams in the summer but also taking responsibility for the negative impact tourism can have on the environment and specifically on the sea. A great NGO Terra Hub has been for us “the chosen one” for collaboration on challenging everyone to come up with new and innovative ways to reduce the plastic waste going into the Adriatic sea and be generally more responsible to the planet and each other. We have mentored and supported amazing teams such as Zlarin – the first plastic free island in Croatia, The Throne – the compostable beach toiled that you pay for with plastic waste as well as teams tackling microplastics going into the sea through washing machine drainage. In order to get more insight we conducted a quantitative and qualitative research on the first generation of responsible tourism stakeholders and provided social impact hacking recommendations for Terra Hub. We can not wait to see what else we can do together!

#IMPACTPOLICYΒ

We were so excited to collaborate on the Ministry of Data project with GONG, Techsoup, GDI, UNDP and many others, to support 10 teams from Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo to crunch data for public good and present and perfect their applications and software using public open data to improve the quality of life in their local communities. It is a privelege to identify and support those who can do amazing things with open data in the region. What we, the other kinds of geeks, call β€œTechnomediators”- people who translate data into usable information for the public. However, we did have a hidden agenda. And that is advocacy and pushing for open data in the region.

HOW DO WE KNOW WE HAVE POSITIVE IMPACT?

We do what we preach – as an expert organisation in the field of social impact we make sure we generate and measure our impact both externally in working with our clients and partners and internally as impact business culture we ensure in our company

Systematic change – working with large systems such as governments and corporations means that we impact significant change but also that we have a specific methodology for measuring it. We as professionals have an imperative of respecting the ecosystems we work with, for large systems this means respect for slow and inductive change

Cross-sectoral social change – working in all sectors we ensure that we adapt the way we measure our social impact for different sectors, and that we look for impact synergies in bringing them together

Impact is always both positive and negative – when measuring social impact we take care not to just honk our horn and present the positive impact, but also to analyse and measure the potential negative impact and the missed impact opportunities

Impact In Focus – each year we choose, manage and measure one external impact challenge and one internal impact challenge, in order to stay focus and to continue our lifelong process of learning and being sensitive to the impact of key issues that surround us.

Read more about our impact measurement methodology soon on our blog.
